Sunset is a special time for boaters. After a full day of cruising, it signals that it's time for a break. And if the break you have in mind does not involve saltines and sardines, have we got the places for you.

Here's a scratch-the-surface list of 20 fine-dining establishments with their own docks or nearby marinas, grouped according to region. Some are white-tablecloth places with awe-inspiring wine lists. And some can be best described as casually elegant. But all furnish weary boaters with terrific service, delectable food, and a rejuvenating sunset. Call ahead for docking instructions, water levels, etc. Then prepare to indulge. (Note that all prices given are the cost of one meal, excluding drinks, tax, and tip.)

Voted "Best Fine Dining Beachside" by a local newspaper. Festive tiki deck. Rockin' fire-roasted lobster tail and tuna sashimi. Chef Tom Prichard, who has worked kitchens from New York to Mallorca, Spain, has been here since day one. Check out the single-malt scotches in the cigar room.

Claim to Fame: oak and citrus wood open-pit fire.

The Kemah boardwalk is a lively restaurant row with an adjacent dock, and the Aquarium is one of the best the boardwalk has to offer, with seasonal specials including sumptuous lobster dishes.

Claim to Fame: like the name says, two huge aquariums--one 50,000 gallons and another 15,000 gallons--featuring exotic saltwater fish.
