Best Place to Beach It
St. Joseph Peninsula State Park, whose 2,516 acres comprise sparkling white sand and dense forest in northwest Florida, took top honors on Stephen "Dr. Beach" Leatherman's annual "Top 10 Beach List" this year, beating all comers from both coasts, the Gulf of Mexico, the Great Lakes, Pacific Northwest, and yes, even that perennial 600-pound offshore kahuna, Hawaii. Leatherman, a recognized beach expert and environmental science professor at Florida International University, compiles his yearly list after exhaustive visits, inspections, and testing.
