“The engines are in!” That’s the first thing West Bay SonShip’s president Wes Vermeulen told me when I asked him how his resurgent company’s new 72 was coming along. The 72 is a progression of the West Bay SonShip 58, which Vermeulen referred to as “a bread-and-butter boat for us for years.” The 72 evolved based on client feedback requesting a larger pilothouse, side-by-side berths in one of the guest cabins, and a larger cockpit. What’s more, the boat’s styling is a bit more forward-thinking than that of the 58; a trait that Vermeulen predicts will keep her on the cutting edge for the next decade or so.
