If you hanker for the ultimate in navigational detail and nuance, here’s a single CD that contains more than 10,000 pages of government nautical publications. Included are PDF files of American Practical Navigator (Bowditch), U.S. Coast Pilots, International light lists (but not U.S. ones), and less familiar gems like NOAA’s definitive Chart Users Manual. A master “library” file nicely links all 29 books, and the zoom/search abilities of Acrobat Reader make most of those pages quite accessible (the exception being the dense Sight Reduction Tables used for celestial navigation). A lot of this valuable reference material is available for free download at www.nima.mil—a good way to get a taste—but if you want very much of it, SetSail’s $80 compilation fee is a fair trade.
