World’s 100 Largest Yachts 2006 #58: Amazon Express
#58: AMAZON EXPRESS—220'11"
Despite many changes to her styling (particularly her superstructure) and, of course, her interior, Amazon Express still has a commercial air to her. She was built as a research vessel and converted into a yacht during two stints in yards in Norway and Italy in 1984 and 1994, respectively. (As you’ll see in the specs, her original builder was given the chance to do some of that refit work.) She’s owned by Italian photographer Jean “Johnny” Pigozzi.
Y: 1966/1984/1994; B: Arsenale Venezia, Italy/Horten, Norway and Arsenale Venezia, Italy (conversions); N: Builder/Espen ino Naval Architects (conversion); H: Steel; E: 1/1,710-hp Wickmann
