Avid yacht watchers gave this the Readers’ Choice award on our Megayachts forum this spring. Some folks got suspicious that she was about to sell to a new owner last August, since she was seen cruising up and down the French coast for much of the day, similar to a sea trial a potential buyer would request. Given that Carinthia VII doesn’t cruise much and that she was polished top to bottom and had a photographer onboard, some members of our Megayachts forum even speculated the “sealing the deal” moment was captured for posterity. Turns out the flurry of activity was actually for a book being written about the yacht. In February the guessing games started again when a forum member found a picture of the yacht on the photo-sharing site Flickr.com with a new nameboard: Sylvia I. But computer-savvy spotters debunked the conclusion by pointing to some clever photo-doctoring evidence, and Lürssen confirmed that no one had acquired the yacht from her original owner, who we know to be Heidi Horten, a German retail giant.
