World's 100 Largest Yachts 2008 #44: Anastasia

By Diane M. Byrne

#44: ANASTASIA—247'7"

Anastasia

Known as Y703 (her project number at Oceanco) during her build, this new yacht is widely reported to belong to Russian oligarch Vladimir Potanin and named for his daughter. Regardless of who truly owns her, we know that this is the family's first yacht—ever. What has us puzzled, though, is the fact that just a few months ago the Web site yachtanastasia.com touted the vessel's "unsurpassed standards of luxury & opulence" (which includes a massive fish tank with swimmers straight from the Indian Ocean) yet within weeks suddenly was pulled offline.

FAST FACTS

Anastasia's sleek, shark-bowed profile is eye-catching and consists of a stacked series of sculpted arcs with long interstitial slashes of tinted glass. Such ultra-modern styling should not cause an observer to take this yacht for just another pretty, albeit unusual, face, however. She's built to Lloyd's classification standards, meets all MCA rules, fields a crew of 20, and sports a garage large enough to house a limo tender, a runabout, four PWCs, and a host of other toys. Anastasia also offers a movie theater and massage suite in combination with plush accommodations for 12. Fitted with a bulbous bow that boosts waterline length, she's said to cruise at 15 knots and reportedly achieves a top speed of 18 knots.—Capt. Bill Pike
