America's 100 Largest Yachts 2008 #75: Iroquois

By Diane M. Byrne

#75: IROQUOIS—164'0"

Leave it to a Boston-area blogger to post a story last October with the headline, "John Henry’s Dinghy’s in Town." Boston Red Sox fans are no doubt familiar with Henry and his yacht, since he owns both the yacht and their beloved baseball team and has spoken openly to local media about his boat’s travels. In fact, Boston Magazine reported that when he invites guests aboard, he gives them red socks to wear (after they remove their shoes, of course).

INTERACTIVE DECK PLANS

Despite its bar, this lounge is used more as a family room, thanks to its breakfast/games table, home theater, and sofas. Madrona panels and wenge inlays highlight the owner's stateroom; the cabinet holds a Surround Sound entertainment system. The owner's private, fully sound-insulated music studio has equipment such as video and sound recorders and editors, a mixing panel, and synthesizers. This guest cabin has a pullman bed and can double as a gym. Perhaps the most visually appealing area on Iroquois is her curving, free-standing staircase at the main entrance, featuring 275 blocks of sapeli. Why hide the crystal when you can make it part of the overall artistic treatment of the dining area? The decor employs Asian influences that are underscored by Art Deco elements, most notably here in the saloon.
