Big Roi 206'0" • 2002
Despite reports
to the contrary in The Royal Gazette, Roy Speer, cofounder of the
Home Shopping Network, did not sell his expedition yacht to Bermudian
Dendrick Taylor earlier this year. It seems Taylor jumped the gun when
he granted an interview to the paper, explaining he planned to buy the
yacht and use her to reward travel agents who sold vacations to the island
nation. Not only did Speer turn down his offer, but we hear he also turned
down a few others. So Big Roi is still for sale, for $21.5 million.
She’ll be cruising Norway and Sweden this summer.

Lady Lola 205'5" • 2002
Here’s a
couple with local pride: Duane and Lola Hagadone, owners of Lady Lola
and residents of Idaho, wanted their yacht to tote an all-mahogany Stan-Craft
runabout, custom made in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Duane owns several
newspapers in Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Wisconsin plus This Week
(a tourist magazine in Hawaii), but he’s also notable for developing
the Coeur d’Alene “Floating Green” golf course. It’s
fitting, considering his yacht is a floating golf course of sorts—part
of her sundeck retracts to reveal a teeing platform complete with artificial
grass.

Apogee 205'0" • 2003
Apogee is
available for charter starting at $305,000 per week. An elevator takes
guests through each of her four decks, including up to the sun deck, which
is complete with a gym. But who can concentrate on working out when there’s
a 12-person Jacuzzi fully forward on the same deck? The yacht is the pride
of Darwin Deason, chairman of the board of Affiliated Computer Services
in Texas.

Cakewalk 204'5" • 2000
If the China Sea,
the Mediterranean, the Coral Sea, and the Aegean are merely names of bodies
of water in your mind, then you’ve never been aboard this charter
yacht. They—as well as the Caribbean and the Bahamas—are the
names of the staterooms aboard, decorated with fabrics and colors reminiscent
of each region. Cakewalk checked into Ocean Marine in Portsmouth,
Virginia, earlier this year for some refit work.

Virginian 204'2" • 1990
While Virginian
is spending the summer in the warm climate of the Med, chartering for
$275,625 per week, we hope there’s at least one cool night while
guests are aboard. That way they can request the working fireplace in
her library be lit.

Sarah 203'4" • 2002
Not only did Donald
Starkey pen this blue-hulled yacht’s exterior styling, but he also
designed her interior, which features soothing beige tones and crown molding
that augments up-lighting. Two guest staterooms on the main deck can be
converted when they’re not in use to become part of the owner’s
suite, serving as a gym and office.

Esmeralda 201'7" • 1981
If you’re
a fan of the Hummer television commercial starring Regis Philbin that’s
been running for about a year, then you’ve undoubtedly noticed this
yacht. At one point the camera pulls back to show the über SUV sitting
on one of Esmeralda’s expansive open deck areas, surrounded
by a group of partyers.

New Sunrise 201'1" • 1999
New Sunrise
pulled into Malta Super Yacht Services earlier this year for routine maintenance.
We’ll take bets that the owner’s party couldn’t wait for
work to finish to tickle the ivories in the saloon; the piano is conveniently
located near a fireplace and large seating arrangement for the ultimate
late-night atmosphere.
