80.
LIBERTAD • L: 192'0"; Y: 1986/1992
The fast-food
biz sure must be good, for we’re told the owner of this yacht made
part of his fortune by introducing Spaniards to quick-delivery pizza.
He’s Cuban by birth but has adopted Spain as his residence.

81. RONIN •
L: 191'9"; Y: 1993
Larry Ellison
(see no. 28) changed the name of this yacht, launched as Izanami,
about a year ago. Even though he’s about a year away from taking
delivery of his next Lürssen, which The Financial Times reports is
about 446 feet long, he apparently plans to keep this one.

82. HENRIETTE •
L: 191'1"; Y: 1950
Part of the
Latsis fleet (see no. 3), this lady is used primarily by John Latsis’
daughter.

83. SEAWOLFE •
L: 190'8"; Y: 1957/2002
When a Greek
yachtsmen went in search of a commercial vessel to convert to a yacht,
he found Clyde, a tough-as-nails tug. A three-year refit turned her into
Seawolfe (see page 102). Even though
she retains some of her original commercial character, some of her exterior
areas are unmistakably yacht-like. Take, for instance, the acres upon
acres of teak decking (a party involved in the refit jokingly said it’s
the equivalent of an entire forest in Burma, due to Seawolfe’s sheer size). Her most astounding feature, though,
is her engine room, with the original Smit/MAN powerplants that stand
at least 20 feet high.

84. PEGASUS •
L: 189'3"; Y: 2001
There are
several tons of stone—marble, granite, and onyx—used aboard
Pegasus. Her owner, Ron Tutor of
Southern Californian construction giant Tutor-Saliba, has a real fondness
for it. He also enjoys entertaining his multitude of family members and
friends, which is why there’s a huge flying bridge and a sky lounge
that can convert to a small theater.

85. LADY MONA K •
L: 189'0"; Y: 1986
Six cabins
that can accommodate up to 16 people make this Amels special. But she’s
also notable for being the former Lady Ghislane,
the yacht that in 1991 gained instant notoriety when her then-owner, Australian
Robert Maxwell, mysteriously fell overboard and died.

86. PRINCESS TANYA
• L: 188'10"; Y: 1961
Charter guests
who find the wind has taken a little too much liberty with their hair
need not fret aboard Princess Tanya, as she has a hair salon. Once their coifs have been
restored, they can relax to the dulcet tones of the onboard musicians
(a violinist and pianist). Her charter rate is $238,000 per week.

87. EXCELLENCE III
• L: 187'10"; Y: 2001
How’s
this for a neat trick: The four guest staterooms on this yacht’s
lower deck can be converted into just two (albeit huge) suites. She’s
the pride of Herb Chambers, the American who is said to be the largest
car dealer in New England. Her dark-blue hull makes her immediately recognizable,
but anyone who steps aboard is hard-pressed to forget the sculpture by
Rene Lalique of a bald eagle. It takes center stage at the base of the
curving staircase (which rises through all four decks).

88. ZENOBIA •
L: 187'10"; Y: 2003
You might
think that because she’s the same length as Excellence III
(see no. 87) and from the same builder, Zenobia
is an exact sistership. Well, she does have similarities, but she also
has her own touches, such as the elliptical ports in the hull (Excellence
III’s are round).

Belated happy
birthday wishes to Ron Perelman, the Revlon CEO, who celebrated his 60th
birthday on New Year’s Day aboard his yacht. As usual, he threw a
big party onboard to ring in the New Year in St. Bart’s. Guests included
Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter and singer Barry Manilow, who serenaded
Perelman.
