I'm sorry to inform you all that one of the marine industry's best naval architects, Tom Fexas, died yesterday. Longtime readers of PMY may remember he wrote the "Spectator" column for us for nearly 20 years and was never shy about sharing his opinions on what was right--and wrong--with the state of boating. What you may not know is that he was a great mentor to people like JC Espinosa and other designers, and he had a great working relationship with the folks at Mikelson. In addition, Hargrave just resurrected his famous Midnight Lace design. He also never failed to give a great interview; I always came away from our talks with so much more information than I could ever squeeze into my stories. He'll be missed.
Sometimes thinking outside the box brings you even farther—like say Minorca in Spain’s Balearic Islands. That’s where the Minorca 42 Islander is built, based on a traditional Mediterranean design.
