Ice cruising

Hi All , I've read how a number of the "Exploration" type yachts have ice strengthened hulls. How serious are these yachts for ice cruising. Serious ice breakers require special hulls , propellers, paint , trim, engines etc etc , but implemting these on a luxury yacht would be very expensive and effect the quality of sailing , especially if stabilizers have to be removed.
I don't see these yachts as plowing a passage through ice , but ice is ice and I'd think that if your going to venture anywhere near it , you would have to be well prepared, or face the consequences . Or maybe I'm totally off the mark ?
