On its October 3 front page, Washington State University’s student newspaper reported how the first Filipinos landed in California in a Spanish galleon whose name “loosely translates to ‘The Big Ass Spanish Boat.’” The next day the paper published an apology and retraction, as the Nuestra Señora de Buena Esperanza actually translates to “Our Lady of Good Hope.”
