Scarano Boatyard in Albany, New York, made its name building wooden yachts—sailing, power, commercial, and recreational. We needed the rudder bearings replaced and our through-hulls replaced as preventative maintenance on our Cruisers 45. Eric at Scarano, the yard manager, treated us like we were as important to them as their largest customer. Their work was impeccable. We developed a small leak in the replaced rudder seals and Eric stood by his word, having us bring the boat back and fixing the problem at their cost. We had the props removed and reconditioned while the boat was out of the water and Eric took the time to walk us through the reinstallation including lapping the shafts which I was unfamiliar with. Eric is always available on his cell to answer a quick question, and they epitomize what a yard should be all about.
We all know that in many cases, a yard is only as good as the people who make it work—the mechanics, the carpenters, the electricians, the yard managers, and the rest of the folks who get the job done. So we want to know who you think are the best service people in the business. Let us know who it is that makes your time on the hard less stressful and more worthwhile—let us know here. ➤
