The latest from Fischer Panda, which claims to be the only company to offer 100-percent water-cooled asynchronous gensets, is a smart-panel diagnostic display that continuously monitors genset performance and alerts owners when general maintenance, adjustment, and troubleshooting issues arise. The Digital Control Panel, which the company says "will provide better security and better performance" for boaters, will be optional on all Fischer Panda gensets 8 kW and larger; multiple panels can be installed via a network cable.
Kohler launched a 6-kW (at 60 Hz) diesel genset dubbed the 6EOD/4.5EFOD that will be available in the first quarter this year. It's Tier II-compliant and features a soundshield and Kohler's Advanced Digital Control (ADC), which Kohler says delivers more precise voltage and frequency regulation and enhanced diagnostic and monitoring information in an easier-to-read format.
In a move designed to appeal to the megayacht market, Kohler has expanded its diesel genset line from 125 kW up to 180 kW.
Italian manufacturer Mase has two new gensets to report for 2007: the IS 6.1, which produces 6.1 kW at 50 Hz, and the IS 7.1, which produces 7.1 kW at 60 Hz. Both come with hushboxes to reduce sound, and apparently they work: Mase reports that both gensets registered just 52 dB-A at seven meters (about 23 feet). Sixty-five dB-A is the level of normal conversation.

The M944W, the latest model from Seattle-based Northern Lights, produces 30 kW at 60 Hz (1800 rpm), or 26 kW at 50 Hz (1500 rpm), and is reportedly designed for "long life at full load." The 3.3-liter engine features a cupronickel heat exchanger, bronze-and-stainless steel, gear-driven raw-water pump, and freshwater-cooled exhaust manifold. It also features Northern Lights' W-series alternator for clean A.C. output and short-circuit protection.
The new 27/32 kW 50/60 Hz offers all the features and benefits of Onan's e-QD product line, including reduced sound and vibration, increased diagnostic capabilities, self-protective shutdowns, single-side serviceability, and electronic governing. Onan's e-Series Digital Display, which makes it easier to monitor A.C. voltage and frequency, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and operating hours, is optional and can be either set- or remote-mounted.
The 27/32 kW 50/60 Hz comes with Onan's five-year limited warranty.
Westerbeke recently launched the networked D-Net genset, the first electronic diesel genset to carry NMEA 2000 certification. D-Net links an array of controls, instruments, and navigation systems and displays via a single cable; features digital controls and displays for easy-to-monitor diagnostics; and is available with Westerbeke's 5.7- and 7.6-kW diesel gensets.
