    Honda outboards have always been four-strokes, and that tradition continues with the new BF135 and BF150. The BF150 features dual overhead camshafts, VTEC (variable valve timing and lift electronic control), a three-way cooling system for the cylinder block, cylinder head, and exhaust manifold, and a lean-burn feedback system for efficient mixture of air/fuel according to speed and load. The 2.4-liter in-line four is based on Honda’s proven CR-V, Accord, and Element car engines.

    According to the company, its DOHC design creates more valve lift, enabling the BF150 to breathe more efficiently and thereby produce more horsepower. Using two cam lobes to operate the intake valves, VTEC delivers both strong torque at low rpm and high horsepower at top rpm for maximum power and fuel economy. The BF135 is the same as the BF150 but without VTEC.
