The only manufacturer of custom-built aluminum diesels, and with its 1,500-hp range engines boasting what the company claims is the best power-to-weight ratio in the industry, Bugatti recently announced that it will be the first company to offer engines that burn biodiesel, a cleaner alternative to diesel fuel. Its engines currently exceed all future scheduled International Maritime Organization, California Air Resources Board, and EPA emission requirements. They're also the only ones that can be ordered with clockwise or counterclockwise rotation and have unique integral gearboxes, freeing up engine room space. The new 42-Cylinder Radial Aluminum is reportedly the first diesel to be available with either an integral reversible gearbox or a two-speed hydraulic transmission, while the new 56-Cylinder Radial Aluminum produces 5,320 hp and has all its auxiliary equipment--oil filters, oil coolers, thermostats, control actuators, etc.--integrated into the engine, making it easy to service.
