A little snooping around at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show revealed that Crusader has been busy working on a new product, but the public will have to wait for its unveiling--at least for one engine. PMY heard a rumor that Crusader, a division of the Pleasurecraft Engine Group, is adding a six-liter to its Captain's Choice lineup. The engine could debut in late 2003 or early 2004 and according to our sources should generate 375 hp, making it a competitor for Mercury's 6.2-liter 320-hp MerCruiser engine. Details are being kept under wraps for now. However, we'll keep you apprised of any developments as soon as they occur.

Crusader did confirm, however, that it has a new 5.0-liter 275-hp fuel-injected gasoline engine (see picture on next page), currently being used in Shamrock boats. It says the engine is based on the familiar GM Vortec block and features GM's fourth-generation multiport fuel-injection system called the MEFI-4. The fuel-injection system can be set up two ways, with a return line via a Fuel Control Cell (FCC) or with an Aqua-Cooler, which is a water-cooled no-return system. The choice is up to the boatbuilder or consumer if it's a repower, and both methods are said to deliver precise amounts of fuel to the engine to improve starting, enhance smooth idling, improve fuel economy, and reduce potential for fuel starvation and vapor lock.
