Continuing to refine the successful Cummins QSM11 electronic diesel, Cummins MerCruiser has given it a new rating of 660 hp. This 10.8-liter in-line six is equipped with a proprietary ECM, a network of electronic sensors, diagnostics, and C-Cruise, which Cummins calls "marine cruise control," and offers options like slow idle, engine synchronization for twin-engine applications, advanced interactive digital engine displays, backup throttles, prognostics, and diagnostics. The more powerful model is nonetheless fuel-efficient, burning 33.3 gallons per hour at its maximum rating of 2300 rpm. Cummins MerCruiser has also given its 4.2 ES 300 electronic stern drive engine a new rating of 300 hp. According to the company, the 4.2-liter displacement 4.2 ES 300 includes an advanced electronic control system, gear lube monitor, and a newly designed intake port for higher swirl and better combustion.
