Taking the technology from its highly successful in-line four-cylinder powerhead, Suzuki ups its four-stroke line with the addition of the DF 140. This fuel-injected powerplant weighs in at 410 pounds, which the company says makes it the lightest four-stroke presently in production in its horsepower range. A new engine cover design with a large air induction port promotes maximum air flow. Inside, a two-stage cam system allows for smaller head size and reduced valve angles, which when combined with the offset drive shaft creates a more compact envelope. This design also reduces the height of the powerhead, thus moving the engine’s center of gravity forward for better balance over the transom.

Other features include solid state electronic ignition, electronic idle speed control, an overall 2.38:1 gear ratio that lets the DF 140 turn a larger prop, an oil-change reminder, and a bolt-on water-cooled oil cooler.(714) 996-7040. www.suzuki.com.
