The big dog from Mercury this year is its 250-hp EFI outboard. At 479 pounds the engine features a 60-amp alternator, ECM-controlled single-point oil system that automatically mixes oil and fuel at the correct ratio for any rpm, overheat and low-oil warning system, and a one-piece cowling that the company states will prevent water damage as well as protect the inner workings from excessive moisture. The 250 also features Mercury’s exclusive Electro-Deposit Painting (EDP) process. Acrylic enamel is baked on not only to provide a lustrous finish but to withstand all types of weather and water conditions.

Over on the freshwater side, Mercury/Mariner offers a new 115-hp 4-stroke EFI engine with electronic CDI ignition.
