We Americans are obsessed with power. We witness (and are sometimes a party to) power struggles, rev up for everything from corporate meetings to walks around the block, even munch on Power Bars when we exercise.

Here at PMY we’re fascinated with a different kind of power—that which allows us and our readers to enjoy our favorite pastime. We’re talking about enignes, everything from shiny little outboards to hulking diesel inboards. Helping to fuel the excitement is the fact that this year there are more new marine engines than ever before, all of which bristle with the latest technology.

Fortunately you don’t need to wait for the next boat show to see these new powerplants; here we present an inside look at what all the major outboard, diesel, and gasoline engine manufacturers have in store.
