Often called by one of two names, this component is a radiator-like device through which engine coolant circulates and intake air passes. It lowers the temperature of the air coming out of the turbocharger, which is hot because it’s been compressed. Cooler air is denser, allowing even more fuel to be added, plus it’s easier on the engine’s internal components. These things are usually large and rectangular, have large coolant hoses going into and out of them, and are mounted directly after the turbocharger, usually on the side of a six-cylinder engine.
