In June Palmer Johnson
sold its Savannah shipyard to a group of local investors. The yard’s
new name is Global Ship Systems. As Palmer Johnson’s management
did, the new team intends to perform refit and service work on yachts,
but Global Ship Systems also intends to compete for military contracts.
Global Ship Systems is also letting Palmer Johnson remain as a tenant
until it finishes the 120-foot-series fiberglass yachts it has under construction
in the Georgia yard. ...Oceanfast delivered its second yacht of
the year, Sea Bowld, in June. Measuring nearly 174 feet overall,
the all-aluminum yacht (right) features exterior styling and interior
design by Sam Sorgiovanni. ...A small group of VIPs saw a 155-footer hit
the water at Christensen Shipyards in July. She features mahogany
paneling and an elevator servicing all decks. While the yard has kept
mum on the owner’s identity, it’s widely held in yachting circles
that he’s none other than Tiger Woods.
