Most
GPS/chartplotter systems that feature gray-scale displays are capable
navigational aids. But for those boaters who want to add a little color
to their helm setup and a bit more detail on screen, Garmin offers the
GPSMAP 188C Sounder.
The
188C sports a five-inch, 16-color, 234x240 pixel, high-resolution transflective
(TFT) display, which should provide a clean picture of where you are and
where you are going. In addition, the 188C comes with a built-in 12-channel
WAAS-GPS receiver to reduce error and increase location/direction accuracy.
Some
of the plotter-mode features of the 188C are storage for 3,000 waypoints,
a world basemap, a celestial table, and U.S. tide data. The plotter runs
either Bluechart or Mapsource cartography. In its sonar setting the unit
runs dual-frequency 50/200 kHz via a 500-watt sounder to show detailed
deep-water targets.
The
GPSMAP 188C Sounder is available from most major marine electronics retailers
and has a suggested retail price of $1,485.70.
