Here’s
something I’ve never seen before—a car that’s also a boat.
The three-seater Gibbs
Aquada is a high-speed amphibian that’s capable of on-land speeds
in excess of 100 mph and on-water speeds of approximately 34 mph, thanks
to its 175-hp, 2.5-liter, 24-valve V-6 and jet drive. It can reportedly
accelerate from zero to 60 mph in less than ten seconds on land and get
on plane within five seconds.
The Aquada quickly converts
to a watercraft; as the vehicle enters the water, the driver presses a
button to start the transformation from car to boat, disconnecting power
to the wheels. The wheels retract, trim tabs deploy, road lights change
to running lights, and it’s good to go.
With a price tag of
approximately $270,000, the Aquada is about as expensive as an Aston Martin
or Bentley, but this vehicle’s definitely a lot more versatile.
