The New Product theme this month is 15 inch, and I suspect this is just the beginning of a trend as boaters lust for bigger screens to better see all the inputs available these days. Northstar has introduced not only a $7,995 15-inch version of its 6000i multifunction display, but also version two of the 6000i software (free of charge except for dealer installation) and a new blackbox fishfinder that starts at $900 and can display on most all Northstar machines. Among other improvements, the software lets you hide the soft-key labels when not needed and supports Navionics’ Gold format charts. The 491 sounder features what the manufacturer claims is “crystal-clear” target discrimination and easy support of either 4,800-watt or 8,000-watt (peak-to-peak power) transducers.
