King
Controls, a major manufacturer of satellite TV systems for RVs, has entered
the marine market. The King-Dome will automatically identify and track
DirectTV, Dish, and ExpressVU satellites and feed multiple channels to
multiple sets below. Signals and power are passed by a single RG6 coax
cable that runs from the 1'3"Hx2'4"D dome to the below-decks
controller, easing installation. Although the $2,895 King-Dome contains
a smaller antenna than its competitors, it can purportedly track horizontally
at 90 degrees per second and correct for pitch and roll at 40 degrees
per second, thus holding on to the satellite’s “sweet spot.”
The company says the unit will never interrupt a program to perform a
“cable unwrap,” but it is not yet capable of tuning in foreign
satellite signals. King Controls anticipates expanding its Sea-King line,
possibly to include international systems as well as economical “at
anchor” stabilization.
