Which Nut Where?

Propellers are held onto the shaft with two nuts. Always place the smaller nut closest to the prop. “Tightening the second nut takes the load off the threads of the first nut,” says Jim Harrison, president of Frank & Jimmie’s Propeller in Ft. Lauderdale (www.fjprop.com). “The first nut essentially becomes a washer. You want the second nut, the one taking the load, to be the one with the most threads.”
