Lends A Helping Hand
By Elizabeth A. Ginns — September 2003
I am 5'1 1/2" tall (when you’re as “vertically challenged” as I am, that half-inch counts), so a boat has to be pretty darn close to the dock for me to reach the pilings or cleats to tie off on. You can imagine my delight when I heard about the extendable Boater’s Essential Docking Tool designed for people just like me who are unable to reach very far.
The tool, which is sold by Hammacher Schlemmer, is made of aluminum and features an extendable arm with a rubber loop at the end that’s wide enough to fit over most pilings and cleats. The arm extends up to six feet away, making it compatible with just about anything but a megayacht and will make docking easier for some people.
As with all Hammacher Schlemmer gizmos, the Boater’s Essential Docking Tool carries the company’s lifetime warranty and is available from its Web site for $39.95.
