New Engine Packs a Punch
By Elizabeth Ginns Britten — March 2004
MTU says its new 10V 2000 CR has the same output as its 12V 2000 but is about a third smaller and around 80 percent of the weight, giving the engine one of the lowest power-to-weight ratios in its class. The 10V 2000 CR is the latest in MTU’s popular 2000 series line of powerplants.
Like all the engines in the 2000 CR series, the 10V features common-rail fuel injection and a high-pressure turbocharger that forces more air into the combustion chamber. It’s also equipped with an electronic governor, which, combined with the injection system, reduces emissions and fuel consumption.
