A PWC Built for Three By Capt. Patrick Sciacca — March 2003 |
|||||||||||||||||||||
The family that rides together stays together, unless, of course, you take a sharp turn. Do that and everyone gets to practice the doggy paddle. However, Kawasaki's latest PWC, the STX-12F, is geared to keep everyone onboard. That's because this three-person craft has "tip-over" protection. If it heels more than 61 degrees, the engine automatically shuts off. This keeps everyone seated, and even if someone gets dunked, with the engine off the STX-12F will not take off like a wild horse. However, this 717-pound stallion can move with purpose (55-plus mph) when you want it to thanks to a modified, 1,199cc, four-cylinder, four-stroke motorcycle-derived motor. In fact, this PWC is said to be powerful enough to pull waterskiers and wakeboarders. The STX-12F is available through Kawasaki watercraft dealers and retails for $8,499.
