All-Terrain Vehicle By Elizabeth A. Ginns — August 2003 |
||||||||||||||||
Hummer—the company known for its all-terrain military vehicles, which can travel through streams 20 inches deep, climb 16-inch-high obstacles, and paddle through deep sand—has teamed up with the Montague Corporation (a supplier of bicycles to the military) to redefine the meaning of the “all”-terrain vehicle. The bike is made of lightweight aircraft-grade aluminum and features the Montague Corporation’s folding integrated technology (FIT). By simply turning one quick-release lever, the bike folds into a 3'x3'x1' pack for easy stowage, making it ideal for the marine setting. At $795, the Hummer Tactical Mountain Bike is the least expensive Hummer on the market (the new H2 has a base price of $49,270) and the most eco-friendly, as it offers silent operation, produces zero emissions, and gets unlimited gas mileage (a marked difference from its big brother). The bike is available through Hummer dealerships nationwide in a range of frame sizes and colors. Hummer Phone: (800) 736-5348. www.hummer.com.
