America's 100 Largest Yachts 2008

With the news of late being dominated by weakness in the economy, politicians bickering over who’s the more qualified presidential candidate, and wildly unstable fuel prices, it’s a wonder we can concentrate on anything else. It’s times like this that we could all use a diversion. Thankfully, "America’s 100 Largest Yachts" is here to serve

And why not? For those of us who own a boat that most megayacht owners would consider a tender, it’s a wonderful way to see how the other half cruises (and how you might cruise if you hit the jackpot). For those of you who either own one of these megabeauties or have one on order-and our annual, independently verified reader research shows a few thousand of you fall into both categories-it’s a way to see how you stack up against the competition. (C’mon, admit it: You always check out the other big yachts in the harbor to see what their styling is like and make mental notes on how you can incorporate elements of that design in your next project. Because there’s always a next project.)

#7: LONE RANGER—255'0"

Regardless of how big your bulwarks may be and your vessel’s length overall, here are a few quick facts to more fully divert your attention:

• Paul Allen’s Octopus (see no. 2) was the topic of tabloids everywhere this spring and summer, due to rumors that actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were to be married aboard in the South of France

• despite having a crane to deploy a motorcycle, Kismet (see no. 16) doesn’t have a bike aboard

• the 193-foot Calixe (see no. 32) is, to the best of our knowledge, the largest yacht solely owned by an American woman-but not the only one on our list falling into the solo-woman category.

And there’s more where that came from. Just turn the page to see pulchritudinous profiles, super saloons, and sensational skylounges. Of course, there are plenty of words to keep you in rapt attention, too. And don’t forget to visit our Web site, powerandmotoryacht.com, for extra photos, interactive deck plans, and other exclusive content.
