Taipan has an antique player piano as well as a built-in saltwater
aquarium. There’s also a hydrotherapy room if the owners or guests
overdo it in the adjacent gym. Befitting her name, her decor features

There you can see interior photos, including an unusual one of the recompression
chamber sitting in the saloon. Open note to the owners: How about adding
some photos from the dives you’ve taken? After all, what you’ve
seen on your two ‘round-the-world cruises has got to be spectacular.

The ex-Rasselas is in the hands of a new owner, as her former
owner took delivery of a larger yacht earlier this year (see no. 14).
Judging from charter flyers we’ve seen for her, the current owner
hasn’t changed the classic John Munford interior, which was kept
in immaculate shape since launch.

PALADIN SHADOW - 170'0" 
This is the first of a series of “shadow boats”
from a new venture called (of course) Shadow Boats. The idea is to convert
offshore supply vessels and the like into support yachts to be used in
tandem with traditional megayachts (hence the term shadow) or even expedition
yachts in their own right. Paladin Shadow was built as the Clipper
Cap Haitien and carries enough fuel to cross the Atlantic on her own
bottom or to refuel a 200-footer andcruise a few weeks on her own. As
for creature comforts, there are two ample guest suites plus an enclosed
toy and helicopter hangar (with fuel tanks for both categories).

When Dream was commissioned, the owner requested that the
yacht be able to maintain position and heading without using ground tackle
or engines. Feadship’s solution was a dynamic-positioning system
in which information gets fed to the bow and stern thrusters to keep her
stationary, even in Beaufort 3 or 4 conditions.

on this list, you’re right; no. 17 is the replacement for this lady,
which has a 31-foot beam and is for sale for $39.5 million. Because she
was intended for Bahamanian cruising, she’s a shallow-draft yacht
(8'2" feet max) and features an aluminum hull; in fact, when she
was built, she was the largest all-aluminum yacht in existence.

59. POTOMAC - 165'0"
This yacht is a historical national landmark, one of three surviving
presidential yachts. She was used by Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In fact,
there’s an interesting story behind why he preferred Potomac
to the other presidential yacht of the time, Sequoia. Because of
his limited mobility due to polio, he feared being caught in a fire; since
Potomac is a steel yacht, he felt safer aboard her than the all-wood
Sequoia. A hand-operated elevator was installed inside a false stack,
and FDR used ropes and pulleys to move the elevator up and down between
the saloon and upper boat deck.
