4. TATOOSH - 301'8"
Over the past few years Tatoosh has been busy visiting locales
around the world, such as New Zealand, France, Tahiti, Bora Bora, Mexico,
the Cayman Islands, and even the good ol’ United States (though somehow
our fair shores seem far less exciting in comparison to some of those
countries). Considering many yacht owners, regardless of their vessel’s
size, lament the fact that their yachts don’t get too much of a workout,
this is impressive. But it’s even more impressive when you realize
Tatoosh is just one of two yachts in our top ten that are owned
by the same person, Paul Allen (see no. 2).
The top deck is said to be devoted exclusively to him and his family,
comprising the master suite and saloon, among other rooms. Guests, such
as members of the Portland Trailblazers, the basketball team Allen owns,
have been able to enjoy the other decks’ saloon, dining area, and
staterooms. (There’s even a ladies’ powder room on the main
deck.) The main saloon is a particularly beautiful gathering spot, featuring
a French limestone fireplace. Hopefully the guests also have been treated
to short cruises aboard some of the “toys” the yacht regularly
totes, most notably the Hinckley powerboat that’s carried in a special
cradle on one side and the sailboat that’s carefully nestled on the
other. (You can see the sailboat’s mast quite well in the large photo
at left and the full boat shot above.)
